Western Governors University
Independent program snapshot
Western Governors University is an online university offering bachelor's and master's degrees across business, education, technology, and health and nursing. Its programs use a competency-based model that measures demonstrated mastery rather than class time, letting students move through material as quickly as they master it. Students read, complete assignments, write papers, and take assessments, typically without fixed class schedules, and maintain regular contact with a Program Mentor. The special education master's program blends mostly online coursework with virtual clinical simulations and required supervised student teaching in real classrooms, and candidates must attend required synchronous sessions.
